Influence of HRGO Nanoplatelets on Behaviour and Processing of PMMA Bone Cement for Surgery

Bone cement, frequently based on poly (methyl methacrylate), is commonly used in different arthroplasty surgical procedures and its use essential for prosthesis fixation. However, manufacturing process reaches high temperatures (up to 120 °C), producing necrosis the patients’ surrounding tissues. To help avoid this problem, addition of graphene could delay polymerisation methyl methacrylate as it could, simultaneously, favour optimisation composite material’s properties. In work, we address effect percentages highly reduced oxide with wt.% (0.10, 0.50, 1.00) surface densities (150, 300, 500, 750 m2/g) physical, mechanical, thermal properties commercial methacrylate)-based bone cement processing. It was noted that a lower sintering temperature achieved addition, making less harmful surgery reducing adverse effects. contrast, variation density materials did not introduce significant changes, which indicates would significantly increase porosity. Lastly, mechanical (strength, elastic modulus, fracture toughness) were by almost 20%. Nevertheless, their typical values are enough these new still fulfil structural function. conclusion, paper presents way control temperature, without degradation performance, adding so local methacrylate) avoided.
